Who would have thought that a simple hash browns order would cause so much commotion?

Being a server means managing the challenging balance between entitled customers and intense managers. Sometimes, it becomes nearly impossible to find the right balance between these two forces, especially when their directives contradict one another. Most of the time, the best interests of management are also in the best interests of the customer, but every so often, that's not the case. Of course, no matter what, the best interests of the hard-working server are often ignored, disregarded, or lost in translation.

  • Matters were made worse when the manager tried a “counting exercise” to avoid throwing an unnecessary tantrum at the server over this hash browns order. Well, let's just say that the server's involuntary laughter in response to witnessing the counting exercise did not help his case.

    I forget the exact exchange but she said something and I responded with my version of logic. But whatever I said sent her over the edge to where she couldn't talk. Instead she started counting very fast from 1-10, I think to avoid saying anything bad.
